Education from the undergraduate to the doctoral level

New training offer 2021/2027 being updated

Every 5 years, the training offer offered by the components of the Grenoble Alpes University evolves to meet the society and the expectations of the professional world.
In September 2021, the IUGA's bachelor's, professional license and master's courses will be changed. Beyond the names of the courses, it is also the EU, the terms of internship and/or memory or the number of hours of instruction in English that are changing.


The bachelor's degree in "Geography and planning" welcomes the largest number of students in IUGA, with 5 specialized tracks available from the 3rd year onwards :
  • Territorial planning
  • Environment
  • Geography, space and society
  • Urban planning
  • Ecosphere

Professional undergraduate degrees,  taught at the Cermosem campus in the Ardèche department :

  • Heritage tourism product design (CPTP)
  • Natural attractions and recreational spaces management (GENL)
  • Tourism guiding (GC)

Two master's degrees, each with several specializations.

The Master's degree in "Geography, Planning, Environment, and Development" (GAED) offers  6 specialized tracks :

  • Geography, information, interfaces, sustainability, environments ( GEOIDES). M1 and M2 open in 2021.
  • Geographies, spaces, men/environment, resources, systems (GEOSPHERES). M2 open in 2021.
  • Territorial development and transition engineering (IDT²). M2 renewed for the year 2021-2022 only to ensure the continuity of registrations in M1.
  • Geography, power, spaces, justice, environments ( GEOPOESICE). M1 open in 2021 and M2 will open in 2022.
  • Geomatics and spacial analysis ( GEOMAS). M1 open in 2021 and M2 will open in 2022.
  • Tourism, innovation, transition (TIT). M2 open in 2021.

The Master's degree in "Urban Planning and Development" ( U&A) has 6 specialized tracks:

  • Urban planning and projects (UPU). M1 and M2 open in 2021.
  • Urban design (DU). M1 and M2 open in 2021.
  • Achitecture, urban planning, political studies (AUEP). M1 open in 2021 and M2 will open in 2022.
  • Engineering of development and planning of territories in transition (IDATT). M1 open in 2021 and M2 will open in 2022.
  • Transformative urban studies (TRUST). M1 and M2 open in 2021.
  • Property project management (MOBAT). M2 open in 2021.

The following programs can be taken via degree-granting and continuing education formats (work-study program, professional contract, apprenticeship contract) :

  • Property project management (M2 MOBAT open in 2021)
  • Urban planning and  projects (M2 UPU open in 2021)
  • Transformative urban studies ( M2 TRUST open in 2021)
  • Geomatics and spacial analysis ( GEOMAS M2 open in 2022)


PhD students can be welcomed on the IUGA website. Doctoral studies are conducted under two of UGA’s doctoral schools: the Human Sciences, Politics, and Territories (SHPT) school and the Earth, Universe, Environment (TUE) school. Lastly, as a university training and research unit, IUGA is affiliated with several research laboratories through its professor-researchers.
