Research

The majority of IUGA professors are members of the PACTE laboratory, a joint social science research unit of the University of Grenoble Alpes, the CNRS and Sciences Po Grenoble.

Other laboratories are also represented at IUGA:
• AE&CC: Architecture, Environment & Constructive Cultures research unit based at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Grenoble
• SPACE: Studies of structures, Adaptation Processes and Space Changes
• IGE: Institute of Environmental Geosciences, UMR 5001
• LARHRA: the Rhône-Alpes Historical Research Laboratory
• LIG: Grenoble Computer Science Laboratory

Research is also conducted and organized within the framework of the "Territoires en Réseaux" federative research structure, which brings together laboratories in Grenoble working in line with its "Territoires" theme.

This research unit's main missions are to lead and  organize multidisciplinary, innovative and cross-cutting projects; highlight their results; and to enrich university courses that are being offered or planned.

To complement its strong working relationships with partner laboratories, IUGA's research is also co-produced with many other institutional partners such as IRSTEA (Institut national de recherche en sciences et technologies pour l'environnement et l'agriculture) or PUCA (Plan Urbanisme Construction Architecture).
Finally, the Institute hosts one of the oldest French geography journals: the Journal of Alpine Research / Revue de Géographie Alpine.
