Message from the director

A teaching and research center in geography and urban planning, the Institute of Urban Planning and Alpine Geography (IUGA) welcomes more than 800 students enrolled in degree-granting and continuing education programs primarily at the Cité des Territoires campus in Grenoble*, in a progressively international environment.

In France, the Institute is one of the most prominent university centers in the two disciplines. From the undergraduate degree to the PhD, IUGA offers a wide range of broad-based and professional training, research, and education in French and English. In order to address our societies' current challenges, IUGA's academic programs emphasize practical coursework, group work, field visits, workshops, and internships.

Classes are taught by our fifty permanent professor-researchers, various professional speakers, and professor-researchers affiliated with other institutions such as the École Nationale Supérieure de l’Architecture de Grenoble, Sciences Po Grenoble, IRSTEA, and our partner universities abroad—all experts in their fields.

Lastly, our research is co-produced with our professor-researchers' laboratories, notably in the PACTE social sciences laboratory partially based at the Cité des Territoires. Other laboratories (AE&CC, ESPACE, IGE, LARHRA, LIG) also contribute to our research initiatives.

If you are interested in territorial planning and development, the environment, geomatics, and urban planning, as well as in research on territories, their surroundings, and their evolution, the exceptional environment of Grenoble and IUGA will help you achieve your personal and professional goals.

À bientôt,

Jean-Christophe Dissart, IUGA Director
*IUGA also runs the Cermosem, a specialized training and research center in the French department of Ardèche.
